Under the heading 1UP, young artists are provided with a platform in the 45m2 upstairs space at 21 rozendaal. Each 1UP exhibition lasts roughly two months. Evelien Lohbeck’s 1UP exhibition is the first in a series. ‘Notebook’ constantly switches back and forth between a sketchbook and a laptop, and thus between the real, analog world and the digital world. The installation ‘Notebook’ bundles together in a playful manner various animations by Evelien Lohbeck. The artist has chosen to share her ‘solo’ exhibition with like-minded artists. As in ‘Notebook,’ the three works by Semâ Bekirovic, Marrit Snel and Roel Wouters play with the concept of handcrafted work in a digital world. The works give a nod to digital techniques, make an appeal for a return to old-fashioned cutting and pasting, and usually involve reversals. Humor is never far off, and the works are charged with the pleasure of creation.
